The Church of the Holy Rude, situated at the top of Stirling’s historic Old Town, is one of Scotland’s most significant religious landmarks. With origins dating back to 1129, the church has played a central role in Scotland’s history, including hosting the coronation of King James VI. This is an experience where you can easily while away a few hours, so make sure to leave yourself enough time!

  • Open from Spring 2026.
    • Monday – Saturday 10am – 6pm
    • 1st & 3rd Sunday every month 12pm – 6pm
    • 2nd & 4th Sunday every month 10am – 6pm
    • Last entry 5:30pm
  • Expect to spend at about 45 minutes here.
  • Location: St John Street, Stirling, FK8 1ED.
  • Note that there are no toilet facilities in the church, but staff can direct visitors to nearby amenities.
Top Tip!
Between the Castle and the Church, explore the nearby Old Town Cemetery for incredible views of Stirling and an opportunity to see the historically significant Valley Cemetery and its unique gravestones.
