Camera Obscura & World of Illusions

Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is a 5-star rated visitor attraction in the heart of Edinburgh.

Housed in an historic building, it offers visitors the chance to get hands-on with over 100 interactive illusion exhibits, see a demonstration of the 172-year-old Camera Obscura and experience outstanding panoramic views of the city from the Rooftop Terrace. Walk through the spinning Vortex Tunnel, get lost in the Mirror Maze, make an impression on the Pinwall and see yourself grow and shrink! It has something to entertain all ages and is open every day from early until late, all year. Tickets to Camera Obscura are included with Your Edinburgh City Pass!

Highlights

  • Live Camera Obscura Show – Ascend to the rooftop chamber and watch Edinburgh projected onto a table using mirrors and natural light. By day, it presents live city views; at night or in poor weather, it transforms into a vivid projection show—capturing landmarks from Edinburgh Castle to Fife.
  • World of Illusions Across Five Floors – Explore over 100 interactive exhibits—from a kaleidoscope tunnel and mirror maze to holograms and the vortex tunnel. Each floor promises playful puzzles, optical tricks, and “nothing is what it seems”!
  • Eye Spy Edinburgh Gallery – Perfect for families, this attraction offers a fascinating escape for rainy days or any day you want to explore. On this floor, powerful modern view cams bring the city into focus, alongside bendy mirrors, a thermal camera, and quirky automata like singing cats. You’ll also discover Victorian-era Edinburgh through historic images and fun optical illusions.

What our customers say…

We got the Edinburgh city pass for 2 days while we were up there for a mini holiday, and were really impressed with how many attractions it included, and for a great price. Well worth getting and planning your trips and attractions.

The views from the top of Scott monument was breathtaking. I would not have gone up without the pass. Would recommend as an easy and affordable way to enjoy Edinburgh.

Edinburgh city pass is a must do for anybody wanting to get the most out of a short holiday in Edinburgh. It’s easy to use too. It was all electronic and I could just whip out my phone for the staff at the each venue for them to scan it.
